Madam Chair,
We wish to thank the Right to Education, for her report.
Quality education is crucial in ensuring that the future generation is equipped with the necessary skills and versatility in adapting to a rapidly-evolving world. Malaysia is committed in ensuring its school-aged population has equitable access to quality education. We are convinced that investments in education will provide the best returns in our quest to develop marketable human capital.
The Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025 serves as an important guiding document in the development of the education sector, to strengthen its resilience against future challenges. The Blueprint is based on five fundamental pillars, namely access, quality, equity, unity and efficiency, in order to address national needs as well as prepare for global challenges.
Malaysia also recognises the importance of developing future-ready talent in order to meet the evolving skills requirements by industry. As such, the Twelfth Malaysia Plan 2021-2025 gives emphasis in further enhancing the quality of education and training programmes, leveraging emerging technologies, and addressing overlaps in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) governance.
Madam Chair,
Our question to the Special Rapporteur is as follows: The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed critical shortcomings in the education system. As we transition into the post-pandemic phase, what are key areas within the education sector that demand urgent attention from States to ensure that we will be better prepared for future emergencies?
