Mr. Chair,
I would like to thank Ms. Mikiko Otani for her presentation and the Committee for the work undertaken in promoting and strengthening the rights of the Child.
2. Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to protect and promote the rights of children. As a State Party to the CRC, Malaysia has undertaken efforts in ensuring that the rights of the child are protected. In Malaysia, the rights of children are protected and promoted by the Child Act 2001 and the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017. This is further complemented with the adoption of National Policies and Plans of Action on Children and on Child Protection.
3. In ensuring quality and affordable education for children, the government continues to provide subsidised early childhood care and education (ECCE) especially for the poor and low-income households. Furthermore, to enable underprivileged children or orphans to continue living with their guardians without being deprived of their potential to develop and grow, monthly financial assistance for children are provided. Malaysia also continues to review the child judicial process in further strengthening children protection.

4. Malaysia will continue to promote the rights of children and call on the international community to strengthen international cooperation in order to advance the rights of the child. Our question to you is; how is the Committee moving forward in resolving the backlog of reports for review that has been postponed due to pandemic? And has the backlog in any way impacted the work of the Committee in moving forward post Pandemic?.
