NEW YORK, 17 SEPTEMBER 2021

Thank you for giving me the floor, Madame Chair.

Good afternoon, Excellencies and Colleagues.

At this opportunity, Malaysia wishes to convey its gratitude to the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the UN under the leadership of HE Ambassador Amal Mudallali for steering the work of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) for the month of September 2021 in the most efficient manner. Our gratitude also to HE Ambassador Thilmeeza Hussain and the team from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the UN for chairing the APG in August 2021.

I wish to take this opportunity as well to thank the APG for recently endorsing Malaysia’s candidature to the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2022-2024 at the elections to be held on 14 October 2021 alongside with other candidates namely India, Kazakhstan, Qatar and UAE.

Malaysia is honoured to chair the APG in the month of October 2021. We would like to thank members of the Group for this trust. I would like to assure you that Malaysia is committed to conduct the proceedings of the APG in a fair, transparent and inclusive manner.

We shall send out a Note Verbale in the beginning of October 2021, containing contact details of the focal person of our Mission.

We look forward to receiving the full support of members of the APG during our chairmanship. All the best to all for the High-Level Week of the 76th Session.

Thank you.
