Madam Chair,
Malaysia wishes to thank you for your presentation and commends the work of the Committee in ensuring women are protected and not discriminated in any form.

2. Malaysia believes that active and meaningful participation of women in society is important in ensuring a more inclusive society. We remain committed in upholding the rights of women and in ensuring that those rights are continuously promoted. We strongly advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women, and have formulated targeted policies to ensure that women and girls have equal opportunities in all spheres of life. The Twelfth Malaysia Plan 2021-2025 includes dedicated measures to advance women’s issues, demonstrating the Government’s commitment and political will towards a more inclusive, accessible development for women, in line with Malaysia’s Shared Prosperity Vision 2030.
3. Malaysia is fully committed in implementing the provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). We are pleased to inform that we have recently submitted the Sixth Periodic Report on the implementation of the Convention to the CEDAW Committee on 25 April 2022. This Sixth Periodic Report covers developments and progress made domestically between 2017 to 2021, and provides an update on policies, initiatives and concrete measures undertaken by the Government in eliminating discrimination against women, in line with the provisions of CEDAW. This Report is a testament of Malaysia’s commitment to implement the Convention while upholding the rights of women, in line with the Federal Constitution as well as national legislation and policies.

4. Malaysia will continue to play an active role regionally and internationally in advancing the empowerment of women. We stand ready to learn from others and share best practices on initiatives to enhance the participation of women. Our question to you is; will there be training and capacity-building programmes for States Parties to continuously improve their country reports, and promote the obligations under CEDAW?
