UPDATED PROCEDURES TO ENTER VIETNAM TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19
On 1 March 2020, the Government of Vietnam through the Ministry of Health has requested all visitors to sign for medical declaration at all border gates in Vietnam. This declaration is specifically to those who are arriving from China, South Korea, Italy and Iran.
- Following the above instruction, the Government of Vietnam has decided to apply compulsory medical declaration for all incoming travelers entering Vietnam, starting from 0600 hours on 7 March 2020. This measure was taken in order to prevent and combat the COVID-19 spread.
- In this regard, the Ministry of Health has introduced the electronic medical declaration form on the following website: http://suckhoetoandan.vn/khaiyte, in order to provide favourable conditions for travelers. The medical declaration form can be submitted online through the website or the phone application “Suc khoe Viet Nam” which can be downloaded via App Store and Google Play.
- For the time being, there is no restriction for Malaysians to travel to Vietnam. On 13 March 2020, the Government of Vietnam has decided to:
- temporarily suspend entry of foreign nationals who come from or have visited or transited via the Schengen countries and/or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland within 14 days preceding their expected entry into Viet Nam for the purposes of tourism, visiting relatives, studying or other personal purposes; and
- suspend visa upon arrival for all foreign nationals, regardless of their country and territory of origin. (Malaysian does not need Visa to enter Vietnam. However, Malaysians are advised to abide by point (i) above on travel history to the countries listed).
The above decision is effective for 30 days from 12:00 (noon) 15 March 2020, and not applicable to entrants visiting Viet Nam for diplomatic or official purposes.
- On 15 March 2020, the Government of Vietnam has decided to organize centralized quarantine for all incoming travellers travelled from/transited via Austria, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, China, South Korea and Iran within 14 days prior to entry date. The Vietnamese authority will arrange for transportation to bring all the travellers to the quarantine centres.
- From 16 March 2020, the Government of Vietnam has requested:
- all passengers on flight arriving and departing Vietnam, including foreigners entering Vietnam, to wear masks during the flight and entering the airport; and
- Vietnamese and foreign citizens in Vietnam to strictly wear masks in public places with mass gatherings (such as in supermarkets, airports, railway stations, bus stations, public areas etc).
- Although the current situation related to COVID-19 in Vietnam is under control, the Government of Vietnam has continued to take drastic measures including school closure, health check in every public entrance including hotels, supermarket and housing areas, locking down certain community places, as well as postponing most of the official government activities. Therefore, preventive measures such as the use of face mask, washing hands regularly, the use of hand sanitizer, avoiding mass gathering and practicing social distancing should be taken seriously.
