CABINET RESHUFFLE BY PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA, 17 OCTOBER 2017 On 17 October 2017,

 

South African President Jacob Zuma reshuffled his Cabinet, which was described as an ‘act of defiance and consolidation’. This is the second cabinet reshuffle this year.

 

There are six (6) Ministers and one (1) Deputy Minister involved in the reshuffle. Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Blade Nzimande, who is also the South African Communist Party’s General Secretary is replaced by Ms. Hlengiwe Mkhize, a former Home Affairs Minister. Her portfolio in the Home Ministry is taken over by Ms. Ayanda Dlodlo, a former Minister of Communications. Ms. Mmamoloko Kubayi (former Energy Minister) took over as Communications Minister.

 

President Zuma appointed Mr. Bongani Bongo as the new State Security Minister, replacing Mr. David Mahlobo. In the new line up, Mr. David Mahlobo is the new Energy Minister.

 

The Department of Higher Education and Training welcomed the new Deputy Minister Mr. Buti Manamela, replacing Mr. Mduduzi Manana.
