On 7 August 2025, the ASEAN Committee in Abu Dhabi, made up of Ambassadors from ASEAN Member States to the UAE, held its third meeting and a joint courtesy call with H.E. Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, UAE Minister of State. Malaysia was represented by H.E. Tengku Dato’ Sirajuzzaman Tengku Mohamed Ariffin, Ambassador of Malaysia to the UAE. As the current ASEAN Chair for 2025, Malaysia’s participation highlighted its leadership in guiding ASEAN’s engagement with the UAE.
The meeting, chaired by Indonesia’s Ambassador H.E. Husin Bagis, also included ambassadors from Brunei, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as trade, investment, climate change, environmental protection, green economy, digital connectivity and cultural diplomacy.
The session concluded with a symbolic group photo, reflecting the close ties between ASEAN and the UAE. Malaysia’s active role as Chair of ASEAN 2025 demonstrates its commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and advancing collaborative initiatives for a more connected, resilient and sustainable future.
