The ASEAN Committee in Abu Dhabi (ACAD) celebrated the ASEAN Day on 8 August 2023 at the Embassy of Thailand, the current Chair of the Committee. The ACAD comprises of seven ASEAN embassies in Abu Dhabi i.e. Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam and Brunei. ASEAN Day is celebrated annually on 8 of August. The event started with the monthly ACAD meeting followed by a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the ASEAN Day.
ASEAN and the UAE have enjoyed considerable trade and investment relations despite recent fluctuation. The total two-way trade between ASEAN and the UAE increased from USD 45.74 billion in 2021 to USD 64.94 billion in 2022. Meanwhile, foreign direct investment (FDI) flows from the UAE to ASEAN stood at USD 204.08 million in 2022. Malaysia is ranked 4th in non-oil trade with UAE, out of the 10 ASEAN countries.
Malaysia is scheduled to be the next Chair of the ACAD after Thailand next year.
