On 30 January 2025, a Ceremonial Handover of the ASEAN Committee in Abu Dhabi (ACAD) Chairmanship was held at the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Abu Dhabi. The Chairmanship was done by the outgoing ACAD Chair. H.E. Alfonso Ferdinand A. Ver, Ambassador of the Philippines to the UAE to H.E. Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the UAE. Brunei will chair the ACAD for six months from January to June 2025.
In their remarks, both outgoing and incoming ACAD Chairs affirmed their commitment to working closely together to strengthen the relationship among the ASEAN community in Abu Dhabi and to promote ASEAN in the UAE. All Ambassadors from 7 ASEAN Member Countries based in Abu Dhabi were present during the ceremony, namely Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
During the occasion, H.E. Ahmad hosted a luncheon for the ASEAN Ambassadors and representatives. Brunei’s Ambassador also stated that the ASEAN Group of Ambassadors’ Meeting will be convened sometime this month before Ramadan.
