Malaysians Strut Their Stuff At Bowling Competition To Mark Merdeka Day
DUBAI, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Donning red, blue and yellow T-Shirts, about 115 Malaysians took control of a bowling centre in Abu Dhabi Sunday night where they participated in the Merdeka Bowling Championship, kicking off Malaysia's 51st National Day celebrations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The competition started at the Khalifa International Bowling Centre in Zayed Sports City at 9.30pm and ended more than three hours later with the prize-giving ceremony.
"I'm so glad that everything went well. Everybody had a blast," said Fadli Adilah, the charge d'affaires at the Malaysian embassy in Abu Dhabi, who also gave out the prizes.
The bowlers were greeted by a 15m-long banner inscribed with the words "Merdeka Bowling Championship" strung inside the centre.
The Malaysians conquered 30 of the 40-lane facility, showing off their bowling skills to the hilt. About 15 children also took part in the event.
The Merdeka reception for Malaysians in the UAE will be held at the Malaysian embassy on Saturday, ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan.
Malaysia marks its independence on Aug 31.
