Matches will allow the players to gain more experience
Abu Dhabi: The MCC-Zayed Cricket Academy have embarked on an inaugural tour to Malaysia where they will play four friendly match against Malaysian development teams.
This is the first time that the Abu Dhabi-based academy will be playing in an Asian country after reciprocal visits to the United Kingdom during the past three summers.
The 40-overs-a-side matches will be played at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. The opening match is against the Victoria Institute on Tuesday. It will be followed by games against Kajang High School on Wednesday, Heritage Club of Bangladesh on Thursday and the University Kabangsaan on Friday.
The academy team is led by Jawad Qazi, an experienced left hand top order batsman.
The rest of the team are all under the age of 16 and includes two members of the side — wicket keeper-batsman Shivank Vijaykumar and all-rounder Moaaz Qazi — have represented Emirates Cricket Board team in the division-1 domestic competitions.
Opportunity
"It will be a good opportunity for the young players to gain experience in Asian conditions where they will be playing for the first time," said Qazi Ayub, head coach of the academy, who has accompanied the team as manager. The tour is supported by the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council with Etihad Airways as the official airline.
