PLENARY MEETING OF THE 78TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY (UNGA) AND THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL (UNSC) HIGH-LEVEL OPEN DEBATE ON THE SITUATION IN THE MIDDLE EAST INCLUDING THE QUESTION OF PALESTINE, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 28- 29 NOVEMBER 2023
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir is scheduled to attend the Plenary Meeting of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) High-Level Open Debate on the Situation in the Middle East, including the Question of Palestine in New York, United States of America, from 28 until 29 November 2023.
Malaysia’s participation in the two meetings, alongside the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Arab Group and like-minded countries, is aimed at increasing momentum and exerting pressure at the UN platform for the restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
The UNSC High-Level Open Debate which coincides with the International Solidarity Day of Palestine, will be the Foreign Minister’s first appearance at the Security Council.
The Foreign Minister will urge the Security Council and the international community to pursue effective and urgent measures for a durable, sustained and immediate ceasefire; provide secure corridors for the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid; and reject selectivity and double standards in the application of international legal and moral standards.
Malaysia’s participation in both meetings reaffirms its resolute commitment and leadership role in addressing the current crisis in Gaza. It also demonstrates Malaysia’s continued solidarity and unequivocal support towards the Palestinian cause.
