YAB Prime Minister and delegation visited MASDAR City office and the MBZUAI which is also located in MASDAR City on 6 October 2023. The visits were initiated by H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology / President-Designate of COP28, Chairman of MASDAR and Chairman of MBZUAI during the visit of YB Minister MITI to UAE on 26-28 September 2023.
MASDAR City is designed to be a zero-carbon, zero-waste city powered by renewable energy. The city will be home to around 40,000 residents and 1,500 companies and is currently being powered by a 10MW solar PV plant. It is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by 2026. The MBZUAI is UAE’s graduate-level, research-based academic institution that offers a range of postgraduate degrees, focusing on core components of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. Currently, MBZUAI has 283 students from more than 41 countries.
The session began with a tour and briefing of MASDAR by H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber followed by a briefing and discussion on potential collaboration between MASDAR-MBZUAI with Malaysia. The visit was concluded with a signing of a MOU between MIDA and MASDAR to develop 10GW of Renewable Energy projects in Malaysia. The MoU was signed by the CEOs of MIDA and MASDAR, witnessed by YAB Prime Minister, YB Foreign Minister, YB Minister of MITI and H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber.
The MoU will facilitate the potential project via developers in jointly developing up to 10GW of renewable energy (RE) in Malaysia by 2035. The RE projects will include ground-mounted solar, rooftop solar, floating solar, onshore wind and battery storage systems and to be developed across Malaysia.
