The Embassy of Malaysia in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan held its National day Reception of Malaysia on 16 September 2015, at JW Marriott Absheron Hotel, Baku. Among the guests were Ambassadors, Representatives of the Foreign Organizations, and relevant Azerbaijan Ministries, as well as, prominent corporate leaders and mass media. The Deputy Secretary General (Culture) of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia (MOTAC), H.E. Datuk Haji Ab. Ghaffar A. Thambi and other delegates from the MOTAC, Malaysia, attended the Reception.
Representatives from MOTAC, Malaysia, were in Baku to perform during the National day on 16 September 2015 and Malaysia Cultural Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan from 18-20 September 2015. The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan was represented by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, Mr. Elmir Velizadeh.
The Reception started off with the National Anthem of both countries, Azerbaijan and Malaysia, and then the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Dato Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman delivered a speech and was followed by Mr. Velizadeh.
During his speech, H.E. Ambassador Roslan mentioned about the existing cordial relationship between Malaysia and Azerbaijan. He also mentioned that the two countries share common positions in many international issues of mutual interest and Malaysia continues to strongly support Azerbaijan in the issue regarding its sovereign claims on Nagorno-Karabakh.
Mr. Velizadeh, in his reply, extended the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Ilham Aliyev’s congratulations on the occasion of the National day of Malaysia. He stated that there is a great potential for further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in education, culture, tourism, oil and gas, high technologies, agriculture and in other fields.
The Reception continued with the cultural performances specially brought from Malaysia. During the Reception a variety of Malaysian cuisine served.
