The High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada made an excellent presentation at the Asia Pacific Summit in Vancouver, 26-27 October 2006.
The Asia Pacific Summit was organized by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, Summit 2006 from 26 -27 October 2006 at the Pan Pacific Hotel Vancouver. The event is dedicated to examining the outlook for Asia and current issues in Canada-Asia relations. It has attracted over two hundred business, government, academic and public leaders from across Canada, the United States, Mexico and Asia to meet at the high-level dialogue and discussion.

Under the theme North America Meets Global Asia, the Asia Pacific Summit 2006 explored a range of critical issues related to Canada's and North America's economic, commercial, political and security relations with an increasingly outward-looking Asia.

In the Day 2 programme under section, “Asian Ambassadors Roundtable – View on Asian Integration”, His Excellency Dato’ Dennis J.Ignatius made an excellent presentation voicing the voluminous opportunities available in the Southeast Asian Region particularly in Malaysia. Most of his views were supported by most of the audience with a round of applause. Among other points that were raised : He said between China and India there is ASEAN and ASEAN is in the driving seat of the Asian Integration quoting the EAS, ASEAN Plus 3 and ASEAN Plus 6. He added that Canadian business is utterly inward looking or southward looking and considering the dynamism of economic activities in the region, Canadian Government should begin with a political commitment and businessmen should start to explore aggressively the opportunity available in the region.
