Ambassador’s proposal in strengthening higher education cooperation

His Exellency Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Ambassador of Malaysia to China paid a visit to Guangxi University for Nationalities (GXUN) on September 11 during his participation in the 18th China-ASEAN Expo and had a fruitful discussion with the President of the university Mr. Xie Shangguo.

 

 

During the meeting, the Ambassador proposed to intensify higher education cooperation with the university in several areas. These include deepening research in Bahasa Melayu through seminars or fora; strengthening joint research in science and technology, culture, international relations and Malaysia-China bilateral relations; establishing a centre for the promotion of Malaysia-China education; strengthening translation and publication of books from both sides into both languages; and improving students’ translation/interpretation skills via internship and social practice. 

 

ASEAN minor-languages, including Bahasa Melayu, is one of the strengths and features of the university. Since the setting up of Bahasa Melayu course in 2008, the university has cultivated 131 graduates and current number of students in Bahasa Melayu recorded at 73, briefed by the president of GXUN.

 

Also present at the meeting were Consul General of Malaysia in Nanning Mr. Azlimi bin Zakaria, Education Counsellor from Beijing Mr. Aziz Abdul Aziz How Abdullah and other relevant officials.
