17 April 2024 – The Consul General of Malaysia in Xi'an attended the commemorations of AirAsia's resumption of its Xi’an-Kuala Lumpur route held in Xi’an Regel Airport. Xi’an is the airline’s fifth direct route to China, designating AAX as the sole airline connecting the capital of Shaanxi Province in China to Malaysia’s capital city.
During the event, the Consul General gave a speech in which he stated that the resumption of services by AAX for the Xi'an-Kuala Lumpur route is a significant success, not just for the airline but more importantly for Malaysia-China relations. This achievement represents a crucial milestone for both nations, particularly as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year.
The resumption of services is expected to act as a catalyst to boost tourism and trade opportunities, in addition to supporting the government's visa-free initiatives. Furthermore, it will help Malaysia achieve its goal of welcoming five million tourists from China this year.
