The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a cornerstone of Malaysia's foreign policy. Malaysia was one of the founding members of ASEAN, with the ASEAN Declaration signed on 8 August 1967. In an effort to promote awareness and impart knowledge regarding this regional inter-governmental organisation, the Consul General of Malaysia in Xi'an organised a programme entitled "Discover ASEAN" at the Xi'an International Studies University (XISU) on 13 May 2026. The programme was also attended by representatives from the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Provincial Government of Shaanxi.
The event commenced with opening remarks from Prof. Dr. Zhang Jie, Dean of the School of International Relations at XISU. The Consul General delivered an introductory briefing to a group of 70 students from the university's international relations programme. The session was lively and engaging, with active participation from the students, fostering a deeper understanding of ASEAN's role and significance.
