Consul General accompanied YB Tuan Tan Kok Wai to attend the “Global Chinatown Gathering in Chang’an – the Collection of Cultural, Commercial and Tourism Activities at Home and Abroad”, which was held on 10 to 11 December in Xi’an (Note: Chang’an was the ancient name of Xi’an). The event was co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Foreign Affairs Office of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, Shaanxi Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Xi'an Municipal Government.
YB Tan was given the honour to present a keynote address as one of the invited foreign speakers at the Opening Ceremony of the Global Chinatown Gathering. The programme was mainly aimed at converging centripetal force of mainland Chinese and overseas Chinese for common development, promoting trade, investment, cultural and tourism exchanges with Xi’an (which is one of the oldest ancient capitals of the Chinese civilization) and help accelerate the growth of Xi’an as an international metropolis for Asia-Europe cooperation and exchanges.
