On 1 January 2026, Consul General Mr Lum Wan Liang attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 Xi’an–Chang’an New Year Lantern Festival at Tang Paradise, hosted by Xi’an’s Foreign Affairs Office. The event celebrated the start of the New Year and featured lantern displays symbolising hope and prosperity, blending tradition with modern creativity. Municipal leaders shared cultural and tourism policies, and representatives from multiple cities participated in promotional activities. A joint lantern-lighting ceremony launched the festival, welcoming guests from China and abroad. Mr Lum toured the lantern exhibition and cultural performances, highlighting Xi’an’s efforts in cultural and tourism development. He emphasised the festival’s role in fostering cultural exchange and expressed commitment to strengthening Malaysia–China ties. The event concluded in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
