The 3rd ASEAN Sports Day was held at the Xi’an Jiaotong University on 21 April 2019. The annual event, organised by the Consulate General of Malaysia in collaboration with the Association of Malaysian Students in Shaanxi (AMSISX), was aimed at enhancing ASEAN community building, promoting unity in diversity and strengthening the cordial relations amongst the ASEAN students and expatriates in Xi’an.
Consul General and the Guests of Honour, namely Mr. Xi Guang, the Vice President of Xi’an Jiaotong University as the representative of the co-organizer, Mr. HOY Pichravuth, Consul General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Xi’an and Ms. Oracha Tanakorn, Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand in Xi’an graced the opening ceremony. The Guests of Honour presented their respective remarks and officiated the opening ceremony by cutting a special yellow glutinous rice which symbolises a part of the rich Malaysian traditional custom. Guests were also entertained by the colourful traditional dances performed by the students from Malaysia, Cambodia and Thailand. The 3rd ASEAN Sports Day was participated by more than 300 ASEAN students. The games played were men football match, ladies dodge ball, tug of war and several traditional Malaysian games.
The Guests of Honour were invited to present the prizes to the participants at the closing ceremony. Overall team, Thailand emerged as the overall champion and won the Challenge Trophy for the 3rd ASEAN Sports Day.
