From 5 to 8 January 2026, the Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Johari bin Abdul, led a delegation to Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China, at the invitation of Chinese officials. The visit, coordinated by the Malaysian Consulate General, involved meetings with local entrepreneurs and government leaders.
Discussions centred on expanding cooperation between Malaysia and Shaanxi, particularly in cultural tourism, halal catering, and speciality goods. Dato’ Dr Johari highlighted Malaysia’s supportive policies for the halal industry and welcomed Shaanxi enterprises to invest in Malaysia. Both sides emphasised the strong China-Malaysia partnership, achievements from the Belt and Road Initiative, and the importance of mutual respect and benefit. The delegation also visited Yuanjia Village, focusing on halal industry collaboration and business exchanges. The visit deepened parliamentary and people-to-people ties and showcased ongoing high-level cooperation, with the halal industry identified as a key bridge for future partnership between Malaysia and China.
