Entering its 3rd year, the Embassy of Malaysia in Berlin, celebrates the AFS (American Field Service) Alumni at the Atrium of the Embassy on 13th December 2013. Host and Hostess HE Dato’ Salman Ahmad and Datin Tengku Karina Yusoff welcomed the alumni members consist of the German exchange students (called returnees) that had undergone the program in Malaysia from year 1991 to 2011, program partners, 2013 exchange students from Malaysia and their foster family in Germany.
The returnees from all over Germany gathered at the Embassy and took the opportunity to meet up old friends and update each other of their development as well as recalling their experience in Malaysia many years ago. They arrived cheerfully in colorful traditional Malaysian costume such as baju kebaya, baju melaju, saree and cheongsam. Malay speaking German student’s fascinated members of the Embassy.
The AFS returnees are all informal ambassadors of Malaysia and could play an active role in bridging cultural understanding between the two countries in the future. The alumni members were also treated with various Malaysian cuisines. The event ended with a raffle’s and photography session.
