H.E Dato’ Ibrahim Abdullah hosted a High Tea event for the AFS (American Field Service) Alumni at the Atrium of the Embassy on 2nd of December 2011. The event managed to bring together German exchange students (called returnees) that had undergone the program in Malaysia from year 1998 to 2010. The returnees from all over Germany gathered at the Embassy and took the opportunity to meet up old friends and update each other of their development as well as recalling their experience in Malaysia many years ago. They arrived cheerfully in colorful traditional Malaysian costume such as Baju kebaya, baju Melaju and cheongsam. Malay speaking German student’s fascinated members of the Embassy.
The Embassy opined that the AFS returnees are all informal ambassadors of Malaysia and could play an active role in bridging cultural understanding between the two countries in the future. The event was also attended by sponsors of AFS, 2011 exchange students from Malaysia and their foster family in Germany. The alumni members were also treated with Malaysian cuisines prepared by Ladies Association of the Embassy.
