The Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC) co-organized an ASEAN Day program with the Southeast Asian Faculty of Humboldt University on 27 January 2012. It is part of an ongoing program to enhance awareness of ASEAN in the academic sector in Berlin. The program was open to the students and faculty members of the university. The event began with opening remarks by Prof Dr. Boike Rehbein, Chair of Asian and African Sociology and an introduction of ASEAN by H.E Maria Cleofe R. Natividad, Ambassador of the Republic of Philippines & current Chairperson of the Berlin ASEAN Committee. It continued with a panel discussion with the respective ASEAN Ambassadors and CDAs. Among the issues discussed was the shift of US foreign policy in the direction of Pacific and Southeast Asia, EU & ASEAN and the current economic crisis. All the ASEAN Embassies, including Malaysia put up an information booth during the event.
