Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC) hosted the ASEAN Day Reception on 8 August 2017 to celebrate the ASEAN 50th Anniversary.
Some 200 guests were treated with sumptuosus cuisine prepared by the ASEAN member countries. Rumah Malaysia prepared Roti Jala, Kari Ayam, Karipap and Kuih Bakar for the Reception. Dr. Thomas Gambke, Chairman of the German-ASEAN Parliamentary Friendship Group and Ambassador Ina Lepel, Director-General for Asia and the Pacific, Federal Foreign Offcie were among the guests of honour. In her speech, Ms. Lepel stated that Asia-Pacific plays a key role in shaping tomorrow's world, politically as well economically. In this case, the focus of Germany and European Union (EU) is on ASEAN. Both organisation are inspiring each other. Obviously, the stability in the ASEAN region is the main interest of Germany and the EU. ASEAN is an essential anchor of stability in the Asia-Pacific.
A recipe book, "Flavours of ASEAN" containing traditional recipes from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam was also launched during the event.
The ASEAN Flag Raising Ceremony was held shortly prior to the Reception.
