I would like to cordially invite you to our annual highlight: the Award Ceremony of the German - Malaysian Society e.V. (DtMG) 2010.

Thanks to the friendly support of our Malaysian patron, H. E. Ambassador Dato’ Ibrahim Abdullah, the award ceremony will again take place in the embassy in Berlin, Klingelhoeferstr. 6: on 19 November 2010, during 15:30 – 19:00 hours, followed by our popular “get – together”. We would be very pleased to welcome you to this occasion.

Traditionally, we honour with this award two personalities from Malaysia and Germany who through their personal efforts and very own cultural signature have provided individual answers to overarching social challenges and developments. The DtMG award 2010 will focus on the important roles of music and trade for creating, explaining and living values in the process of cultural exchange. Individual sensibility as well as positive experiences in trust building were essential for the successes of our award recipients 2010: Madam Conductor, Datuk Ooi Chean See, and Mr. Jens Kellinghusen, President of the Board and representative of the owner families of the Behn – Meyer Group.

In our world with increasing discussions on cultural divergences, Datuk Ooi Chean See as one of the few women in the field of classical music working in the elevated and highly respected position of first conductor of international symphony orchestras, as once in Bonn, Bremen, Halle, Stuttgart and all over Europe. Datuk Ooi has been uniquely successful in introducing music and its messages to different cultural communities. She has developed a mastery in opening our hearts through her music and thereby also laid am important foundation for many other successful partnerships in other fields of social activities.

As music reaches our emotional side as human beings so does trade serve our very daily needs. Trade between Asia and Europe is without a doubt one of the most vital instruments for intercultural bridge building. With great sensibility, trade creates mutual trust in each other’s reliability and cultivates the curiosity for “the other” in order to achieve common economic success. This is all the more important in our times of increasing economic and political regionalisation with identity building processes that often also go along with the emphasis of exclusion and protectionism.

Under the leadership of Mr. Jens Kellinghusen as CEO of the Board and representative of the owner families, the Behn – Meyer Group, through her efforts to understand and to show respect to other cultures in her daily business, has become a leading role model for trusted and mutually respectful partnerships in the field of trade.

Our Malaysian and German award recipients 2010 have both made great achievements in their specific professional fields. Through their outstanding contributions in their particular fields of music and trade, they have helped to increase our mutual cultural understanding, trust building and respect and thereby also brought new momentum into the daily professional lives of many other people. They both offer innovative and spirited approaches and contribute in an outstanding way to the common good of the people of Malaysia and Germany.

We are therefore very happy and proud to honour these personalities at the Malaysian Embassy in Berlin with our DtMG Award 2010. During our traditional “get – together” following the ceremony there will be many opportunities for exchange and networking among our members and guests.
