The year 2015 is an important juncture for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as it welcomes the realization of the ASEAN Community. The realization of the Community is an important step that the ASEAN is taking towards regional integration while effectively contributing to the international community. Guiding ASEAN towards this goal is the Roadmap for an ASEAN Community 2015, adopted in Cha-am Hua Hin, Thailand in 2009. The 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur in November 2015 will, among others, sign the “Declaration on the ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together”, which will serve as continuation of the Roadmap. The ASEAN Vision 2025, a spiritual successor to the Roadmap for an ASEAN Community 2015 will serve as a guidance that lay the foundation for ASEAN’s direction in the next decade.
In this context, the Embassy of Malaysia, Berlin representing the ASEAN Chair for 2015 and the Federal Foreign Office, in collaboration with the Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC), the German-Asia Pacific Business Association (OAV), the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) will organize a seminar “ASEAN Community 2015 and Beyond” at Europasaal, Federal Foreign Office, Berlin, on Friday, 4 December 2015. Building on the ASEAN Vision 2025, this seminar will take stock on the progress of ASEAN, as well as look into the direction that ASEAN will be taking post-2015.
Amongst issues that will be covered during the seminar include discussion on key outcomes of the 27th ASEAN Summit, ASEAN Vision 2025, the future of ASEAN-EU cooperation and how the ASEAN Economic Community would benefit foreign businesses. Over the past year OAV has led a strategic dialogue between high-ranking representatives from politics, business, academia and society about how Germany and Southeast Asia could strengthen their economic cooperation. While the final results will be officially presented in March 2016, OAV will share some of the key findings at this event.
To register, please fill in the included form and submit it to the Embassy of Malaysia, Berlin via the mail, email or fax. Deadline for registration is 30 November 2015.
