Awang Kelana, a Malay cultural workshop by Persatuan Seni Budaya dan Warisan Jawi (WarisAlam) was held in Paris on Saturday, 29 April 2017. The Awang Kelana Cultural workshop graced by H.E. Datuk Ibrahim Abdullah, Ambassador of Malaysia to France, was also attended by the home-based and the locally recruited staff of the Embassy and the Malaysian agencies, together with their families.
Through this event, guests were able to expand their cultural capital and increase their understanding of Malay traditional culture and martial arts. During the workshop at the apartment of Encik Mohammad Razdan Jamil, the Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, it was evident that the performances put up by WarisAlam provided plenty of intrigue, action, and excitement. Encik Saiful Anwar Yahaya, Awang Kelana’s Project Chief of WarisAlam group demonstrated Malay traditional exercises which was then followed by a silat performance.
Key figure in the French silat scene Frenchman Mr. Audran Le Guillou, Président of Culture Silat/Seni Gayung Fatani Malaysia/France and head instructor of PSGFM-France was also on hand at the workshop. Guests were able to marvel at the local French silat talent when Mr. Audran Le Guillou put on a show himself by breaking out his energetic silat moves and steps. This workshop is part of the ongoing efforts to grab the interest of the general public including French locals and allow them to experience the cultural offerings of Malaysia.
