49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (49th AMM) and Related Meetings, 23-26 July 2016, Vientiane, Lao PDR

H.E. Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman, Minister of Foreign Affairs will lead Malaysia’s delegation to the 49^th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (49^th AMM) and Related Meetings on 23-26 July 2016 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.  Besides the 49^th AMM, YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman is also scheduled to attend the Post Ministerial Conferences (PMC), the 17^th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (17^th APT FMM), the 6^th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (6^th EAS FMM) and the 23^rd ASEAN Regional Forum (23^rd ARF).

H.E. Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to ASEAN in Jakarta, Indonesia. The 49^th AMM will be preceded by several preparatory meetings at the Senior Officials level.

During the 49^th AMM, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers will discuss issues related to the ASEAN Community, implementation of ASEAN Political-Security Blueprint 2025, as well as preparations for the 28^th and 29^th ASEAN Summits in September 2016. The Foreign Ministers will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern such as developments in the South China Sea, situation in the Korean Peninsula, terrorism and violent extremism, maritime security and other non-traditional security issues.

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers will also attend the Post-Ministerial Conferences (PMCs) with ten ASEAN Dialogue Partners namely Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States. Malaysia is currently the country coordinator for the ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations for the period 2015-2018. H.E. Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman and H.E. John Kerry, Secretary of State of the U.S., will co-chair the ASEAN PMC+1 with the U.S. 

Apart from the 47^th AMM and ASEAN+ 1 PMCs, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers will also participate in the 17^th APT FMM, the 6^th EAS FMM and the 23^rd ARF. At the sidelines of these meetings, H.E. Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman will hold a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from ASEAN and Dialogue Partners to discuss issues of common concerns.

At the conclusion of the 49^th AMM and Related Meetings, the Foreign Ministers are expected to adopt a number of outcome documents, including the 49^th AMM’s Joint Communiqué which will highlight discussions and decisions made during the meetings.
