7 SUMMIT CHALLENGE HIGHLIGHTS ASEAN-INDIA PARTNERSHIP

The ASEAN flag was handed over during a ceremony that took place on 29 May 2017 at ASEAN Secretariat, to the South Asian Mountaineering Team. The South Asian Mountaineering Team was attempting to complete the Seven Summits challenge. The Seven Summit Challenge is seen as a mountaineering feat, whereby mountain climbers attempt to successfully climb the highest mountain peaks of  seven continents. The team , led by Indian National, Satyarup Siddhanta had successfully climbed Mount Everest and Mount Blanc. The team will make an attempt to climb Puncak Jaya or Carstensz Pyramid (4884 m), one of the highest mountains in ASEAN and plant the ASEAN flag there. The expedition is part of the ASEAN-India commemorative celebrations to be held throughout the year. The mountaineering team also aimed at spreading the message on sustainable development of the world in the course of completing the 7 Summit challenge.
