Farewell Call on H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN by H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Hasnudin Hamzah, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN, 12 July 2016
H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Hasnudin Hamzah, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN, called on H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN, on 12 July to bid farewell as he is finishing his term in Jakarta on 14 July.
Ambassador Dato’ Hasnudin thanked SG Minh for all the support extended to Malaysia and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to ASEAN, during his 4 years 5 months tenure in Jakarta. As Ambassador Dato’ Hasnudin will be new Ambassador of Malaysia to Belgium, he assured him that Malaysia will continue to forge and further strengthen ASEAN-EU relations which will see its 40th anniversary in 2017 and during this important journey to fortify ASEAN-Community and integration by working closely with the ASEAN Committee in Brussels. There are tremendous opportunities for ASEAN-EU relations to be further widen and deepen for mutual benefit.
SG Minh expressed appreciation for Ambassador Dato’ Hasnudin dedication, contribution and hard work since he assumed the post of the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN in 2012. He also commended Ambassador Hasnudin’s able stewardship and leadership in 2015 which resulted in many notable achievements by the ASEAN Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR). He further congratulated Malaysia’s successful chairmanship of ASEAN in 2015 which culminated in the establishment of the ASEAN Community, which was an important milestone year for ASEAN. The establishment of the ASEAN Community, had cemented ASEAN unity and solidarity and its will continue to grow and expand in its regional role by deriving strength from its unity despite the challenges, in addressing several issues such as the SCS issues. SG Minh also thanked Ambassador Hasnudin and the Government of Malaysia for their continued support and assistance to the ASEAN Secretariat, in particular in strengthening the secretariat.
SG Minh expressed his best wishes to Ambassador Dato’ Hasnudin in his future endeavours and hoped that he would continue promoting the work of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat in his next assignment. Ambassador Dato’ Hasnudin expressed hope that ASEC would continue providing similar support to his successor, who will be arriving by mid-August to ensure the success of her mission.
