My dear Colleagues the Permanent Representative to ASEAN
and members of the ASEAN Missions,
1. It indeed has been a wonderful and unforgettable journey throughout 2015 for me as the Chair of the CPR for the 2015 Malaysia Chairmanship of ASEAN.
2. It is without a doubt that 2015 has been an eventful and busy year for the CPR and the ASEAN Secretariat. And we all should be happy and proud of the achievement and accomplishment made, in this historic year of the establishment of the ASEAN Community. The CPR, had in no small measure contributed in fortifying efforts towards attaining the noble goals of ASEAN as dueled by the founding fathers. On this note, I would like to avail of this opportunity to express my deepest and heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all my dear colleagues, the PRs and members of this imperative missions and not forgetting SG Le Luong Minh, the DSGs and all the officers and staff of ASEC for all your cooperation and assistance rendered to Malaysia and the CPR throughout 2015.

3. It is granted that a lot of work still remains to be done and tremendous challenges await us but I believe with the support and cooperation from all, these could be easily managed. This also means we should continue to strengthen the ASEAN Secretariat to be an efficient and robust organization in terms of capacity and expertise so that ASEC is able to perform effectively.
4. To Ambassador Latsamy, I trust that under your able stewardship, you will be able to steer ASEAN to greater heights and ensure the ASEAN Community will continue to succeed.
5. With this, I hope all my dear colleagues and your respective teams; and also SG Minh and his able team will make available the same assistance and cooperation to Ambassador Latsamy and his team during Lao PDR’s Chairmanship as was accorded to myself.
6. I am sure that during Lao PDR’s Chairmanship we will be able to forge ahead in great strides and the CPR will continue to play its important role and functions as an important mechanism in strengthening community building efforts towards ensuring a successful and meaningful ASEAN Community for the benefit of all ASEAN citizens in line with people oriented, people centered ASEAN.

7. I assure you that Malaysia will give its full cooperation and support to Lao PDR and in particular to Ambassador Latsamy, during Lao PDR’s Chairmanship in 2016 towards ensuring the successful implementation of the ASEAN Vision 2025 and the related Blueprints. I am very confident that the CPR, collectively, will be able to accomplish all the tasks and meet the challenges head – on.
8. On a more personal note, it has been a very wonderful, rewarding, meaningful and satisfying year for me. It could not have happened without all your kindness, friendship, understanding and cooperation. These are the virtue that guide and lighten my burden in discharging my duties and responsibilities as the Chair of the CPR and many others. Thank you so very much all of you.
9. With that, I wish Ambassador Latsamy, and his able team and the Lao PDR all the success in 2016.
10. I have also prepared the note on the pending matter for follow-up of the CPR.
