The Senior Officials Meeting and Joint Preparatory Meeting were held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 7-9 March 2011.ASEAN Director-General of Indonesia, DjauhariOratmangun, chaired both Meetings.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DatukMohd.Radzi Abdul Rahman,led the Malaysian delegation. He was accompanied by Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN, Dato’ Hsu King Bee, Deputy Director-General of ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat, Raja NushirwanZainalAbidinand several other officers from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Mission of Malaysia to ASEAN.
During the SOM, the senior officials had an interactive and productive exchange views on various issues, such asfollow-up to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Lombok in January 2011, review of modalities of ASEAN Summit including review of modalities of ASEAN Summit; ASEAN community building; ASEAN Vision beyond 2015; progress in the work on the High Level Legal Experts’ Group (HLEG) remaining legal instruments; ASEAN Regional Forum; ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus; and Preparations for the 18th ASEAN Summit.
The Joint Preparatory Meeting was convened to prepare for the 18th ASEAN Summit, which would be held at the Jakarta Convention Centre on 7-8 May 2011. It was attended by representatives from SOM, Senior Economic Officials Meeting (SEOM) and Senior Officials for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Council (SOCA). The JPM focused on the tentative programme of activities, list of topics and list of outcome documents of the 18th ASEAN Summit. The JPM was also briefed on the work of the Committee of Permanent Representatives which cut across the three pillars.
During the JPM, the SOM, SEOM and SOCA leaders planted trees to contribute to the rehabilitation of the areas affected by the Merapi eruption in September 2010.
