The Embassy of Malaysia would like to inform that due to serious concern over the recent increase in the number of confirmed imported COVID- 19 cases detected at the international points of entry to Malaysia among travelers proceeding from the 23 countries including Iran, the Government of Malaysia has decided to impose a temporary travel restriction on nationals of the Islamic Republic of Iran, into Malaysia effective 7 September 2020. The restriction is a temporary measure and will be reviewed regularly.
This travel restriction would be applicable to all citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including individuals with permanent resident status, resident pass, My Second Home Programme (MM2H) pass, expatriates of all categories including professional visit as well as dependent pass, spouses to Malaysian nationals (spouse visa), students and temporary employment pass.
Notwithstanding the above, citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the following categories are exempted from the entry restriction:-
- Diplomats and their dependents who are eligible under the exemption order. However, for diplomats or embassy staff who do not have required passes such as first time entry into Malaysia, residents in other countries who hold the United Nations (UN)/ World Health Organization (WHO)/ United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) passport are required to obtain approval from the Director General of the Immigration Department of Malaysia through Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia prior to travelling.
- Ship crew members who are involved in sign- on/ joint ship and sign off, given that the ship crew member has to provide Letter of Guarantee and Seaman Book as additional required documents during entry,
- Flight crew members for commercial or private flight given that the flight crew member has to provide General Declaration for the next flight operation as additional required documents during entry, and
- Oil and gas personnel with existing pass and prior entry approval from the Director General of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
