At the 176th Session of the FAO Council which had taken place from 2-6 December 2024, as observers to the Council, the Malaysian delegation comprising of Dato’ Zahid and Mr. Anwar Faiz Othman was actively engaged. Seven statements were delivered on a range of topics, including on global food security challenges and the situation in Gaza, nutrition, reports of the committees of the Council, and institutional and governance matters.
Malaysia will join the FAO Council as a full member for a term starting from 1 January 2025 to 30 June 2026. As a member of the Council, Malaysia will continue to contribute to the governance and oversight of the FAO, to ensure that the organization effectively discharges its mandate to improve nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, raise the standard of living in rural populations and contribute to global economic growth.
