The active involvement and empowerment of youth is necessary for food security and food systems transformation. Malaysia supports the Youth Leadership Programme (YLP), organised under the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub.
At a High-Level Panel on 15 May, Dato’ Zahid shared Malaysia’s perspectives on youth empowerment, and highlighted Malaysia’s practical approach to advancing Science-Policy-Society Interface (SPSI). This includes hosting the SPSI National Inception Workshop, co-organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Malaysia and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub in Putrajaya from 14 to 16 April 2026.
Additionally, Dr. Noraini Ruslan from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), participated in the YLP as Malaysia’s representative from the Asia-Pacific region. She took part in the YLP Reflection and Advancement Convening, held in the FAO HQ in Rome, from 12 to 15 May 2026, which brought together 80 young leaders from across the globe. She shared Malaysia’s experience in advancing youth engagement and SPSI, including efforts to establish a national youth chapter that can work hand-in-hand with national convenors to support food systems transformation.
