177th Session of the FAO Council which had taken place from 7-11 April 2025

At the 177th Session of the FAO Council which had taken place from 7-11 April 2025, Malaysia participated as a full member, after joining the Council for a term starting from 1 January 2025 to 30 June 2026. The Malaysian delegation comprising of Dato’ Zahid and Mr. Anwar Faiz Othman was actively engaged. Eight statements were delivered on a range of topics, including on institutional and governance of the FAO, as well as global food security challenges, and the situation in Gaza.
This past session of the Council was particularly significant as is it the final session to set the groundwork before 44th FAO Conference, scheduled to be held from 28 June to 4 July 2025. The Conference is the supreme governing body of the FAO to determine policy and approve its budget. This year also marks the 80th Anniversary of the FAO, and the upcoming Conference is the opportunity for member states to ensure that the organization effectively discharges is mandate to improve nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, raise the standard of living in rural populations and contribute to global economic growth.
