The 40th Session of IFAD Governing Council was held at IFAD Headquarters in Rome from 14 to 15 February 2017. Malaysia was represented by TYT Dato’ Abdul Samad Othman, Ambassador of Malaysia to Italy and Permanent Representative to IFAD and Mohamad Nazrain Nordin, Second Secretary (Agriculture) from Embassy of Malaysia, Rome. This year’s Session started with a keynote address by Her Excellency Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, President of the Republic of Mauritius.
The highlight of the Governing Council was to appoint the new President of IFAD who will take office on 1 April 2017. After the third round of voting, the Council approve by acclamation the candidature of the former Prime Minister of Togo, Mr. Gilbert Fossoun Hungbo as the new President of IFAD.
