The Embassy joined the rest of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR), and the ASEAN Dialogue Partner embassies, to celebrate the 57th ASEAN Day at an event hosted by present ACR Chair, Indonesia, at their Embassy on Tuesday, 24 September 2024.
The colourful event showcased the diverse culture of the ASEAN countries through a fashion show followed by a buffet spread of traditional cuisine from each country.
Malaysia promoted its highly sought-after nasi lemak, rendang ayam, otak-otak and onde-onde during the event. The fashion show, on the other hand, featured some of the Malaysian costumes, i.e. the Baju Kurung, Baju Melayu and Baju Pinongkolo, the traditional clothing of the Murut ethnic group of Sabah, Malaysia.
The Embassy also took the opportunity to promote the Malaysian Songket and highlighted the fact that it has been added to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
