The Embassy of Malaysia in Rome hosted a reception in celebration of the 68th National Day, as well as the upcoming 62nd Malaysia Day and 92nd Malaysian Armed Forces Day, on 9 September 2025 at Palazzo Merulana, a modern and contemporary art gallery in Rome.
We were honoured to welcome The Honourable Edmondo Cirielli, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, as Guest of Honour. In his address, Deputy Minister Cirielli reflected on the strong and deep bilateral ties between Malaysia and Italy, and commended Malaysia's leadership as ASEAN Chair in 2025.
In his welcoming remarks, Dato’ Zahid underlined the solid bilateral relations between Malaysia and Italy, and renewed momentum to further strengthen it following the visit of YAB Prime Minister to Rome in July 2025. He also emphasised Malaysia’s 2025 Chairmanship of ASEAN, and Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
The reception was attended by members of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, representatives of the Italian government and armed forces, diplomatic corps, international organisations, academia, think tanks, and the private sector. Guests were treated to a delightful selection of Malaysian and Italian delicacies, and enjoyed several captivating musical performances by Ms. Desiree de Silva, Malaysian singer, and Mr. Andrew Tan, Malaysian violinist based in Italy - adding a vibrant cultural touch to the evening.
