The 1429 Aidil Fitri Raya mood in Rome filled up the air at the Chancery on 4th October 2008 where the CDA a.i. and Mrs Amelia Azhar hosted a Luncheon Raya-Get-Together amongst Malaysians young and old as well as Friends of Malaysia in Italy (Americans, Australians, British, Canadians, Indians, Indonesians, Iranians and Italians). Approximately 120 guests were present crowding the Chancery's foyer despite the wet weather condition befell on that day. The autumn cool breeze did not dampen the Raya spirit visible amongst the guests and Embassy officials/staff. Many donned elegance baju kurung, batik shirt and baju melayu complete with songkok/songket. The gathering presented a good opportunity to touch base and exchange views about latest developments in Malaysia and Italy between Embassy officials and the guests. Those present were appreciative of the good jovial company and Malaysian cuisine served, in the likes of nasi impit, kuah kacang, beef rendang, ketupat, raya cookies, nasi ayam, kuew teow goreng, bee hoon goreng, popiah goreng, cakes, savories, tidbits, fruits, ice creams as well as hot and cold drinks. Impromptu praises and positive comments sprang out spontaneously from the guests particularly Malaysians longing for a 'Suasana Malaysia' (Malaysian ambiance) here in Italy. These good vibes came from Malaysian students undergoing theology studies at the Vatican City, Malaysian ladies married to Italians as well as a couple of Masters students on internship in Pisa and Rome, respectively. Even foreigners present were enchancted with the warm and cordial atmosphere. They really enjoyed the cuisine, especially beef rendang and kuah kacang. Many stayed on well beyong the teatime before some gleefully had a takeaway. All and all, the guests were in concert with the notion of making this gathering an annual affair.
