On 24 August 2016, around 3.30am, an earthquake with the magnitude of 6.2 struck central Italy. The earthquake was said to have destroyed many buildings, roads and cause blackouts in the area. As of 10am this morning 21 people have been reported dead and rescue efforts by the local authority are still on going.
