Sharing on the potential of the growing green economy in ASEAN and Malaysia for Italian investment and collaboration, Dato’ Zahid participated in a panel today entitled, “Environment and Green Power: The Booming Market of ASEAN Countries”, at the Greentech Global Forum, organised by Lazio Innova and the Lazio Region.
He shared that the ASEAN region is expected to be the 4th largest economy globally, with an average regional growth of 5%, and a combined GDP of USD20 trillion. Continued development needs to be sustainable, equitable, and adaptive to new emerging environment all and climate challenges, and in this respect, there is an estimated USD300 billion in new revenue pools by unlocking the green economy in the region by 2030.
For Malaysia, a holistic approach is taken in dealing with climate change and the energy transition. These include the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), National Low-Carbon Cities Master Plan, and Low-Carbon Mobility Blueprint, amongst a whole range of initiatives undertaken by the government.
