The tourism sector remains an important contributor to the Malaysian economy. From January to November 2023, Malaysia recorded 44,508 tourist arrivals from Italy, and the goal moving forward is to reach and surpass the pre-pandemic height of 54,710 tourist arrivals from Italy reached in 2019. As part of these efforts, Malaysia is participating in the Borsa Internazionale Del Turismo (BIT 2024) tourism expo in Milan, from 4 to 6 February 2024.
The Malaysian participation is led by Tourism Malaysia Paris, which covers the Italian market, and Amb Zahid lent his support and officiated the Malaysian booth at the BIT on 4 February, accompanied by colleagues from MATRADE and MIDA in Milan, and the Malaysian Honorary Consul in Padua.
