Malaysia presented our national bioeconomy policy and strategies at the second Meeting of the Group of Friends on Bioeconomy for Sustainable Food and Agriculture at the FAO on 4 February. The presentation was delivered by Mr Wan Hasnul Nadzrin, Senior Vice President, Corporate Services, of Bioeconomy Corporation.
The presentation highlighted Malaysia whole-of-government approach to advancing a bio-based, sustainable and innovation-driven economy, including efforts to strengthen value addition, circularity and resource efficiency across the agrifood sector. The ensuing discussions also highlighted the unique role of the Bioeconomy Corporation in advancing Malaysia’s cross-sectoral bioeconomy agenda, including its coordination across policies and programmes.
The meeting also featured presentations by the European Union on the EU Bioeconomy Strategy 2025, and Brazil on the G20 High-Level Principles on Bioeconomy.
Malaysia’s participation and presentation in the meeting was a strong testament to our priorities in the bioeconomy and significant role in representing the perspectives of developing states in global policy conversations. Malaysia underscored the importance of ensuring global bioeconomy frameworks remain inclusive, practical and responsive to national realities.
