Malaysia is recognised as the sixth largest global exporter of semiconductors and holds 7 per cent of global market share. The Malaysian National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) seeks to move the country up the industry value chain, and to double Malaysia’s stake in the global trade to 14 per cent by 2029.
To share on these developments, the Embassy hosted today an event entitled, “Malaysia’s Semiconductor Industry: Growth and Economical Potential”.
The speakers included Mr Ravidran Manogaran from MATRADE Milan elaborating about the NSS, and Dr. Bernard Lim from the Malaysian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers on the evolution and development of the semiconductor industry in Malaysia. Mr Khairul Azlan Idris from MIDA Milan shared on the latest incentives for investing in the industry in Malaysia, while Mr Palella Fortunato of EDA Group and Mr JP Vincent of GSH Group shared their experiences of operating in Malaysia from the perspectives of an Italian and a Malaysian company, respectively. Finally, Mr Stefan de Empoli of I-Com, an Italian think-tank, provided an external viewpoint of how developments in Italy and Europe could affect and complement the growth of the Malaysian semiconductor industry.
The event was moderated by Dato’ Zahid, and was held in collaboration with the Festival Della Diplomazia.
