Minister Giulio Terzi, who is the newly appointed Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs (FM) met recently with Ambassadors from Asian countries/ESCAP Group. As a new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister Terzi met wtih groups of Ambassadors from different regions as an introduction to his appointment as the new Foreign Minister. Before being appointed as FM in the newly appointed technorcrat government headed by Prime Minister Mario Monti, Minister Terzi was the Italian Ambassador to the US.
During the meeting, Minister Terzi was accompanied by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Italy in charge of Asia, Mr. Staffan De Mistura and also several other officers from different departments of the Ministry. Fourteen Ambassadors from the region attended the meeting, namely from Afghanistan, Australia, China, Indonesia, India, Japan, Republic of Korea (ROK), Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Minister to meet all Ambassadors from the Asian region at one time, because it would be difficult for him to meet each Ambassador separately. During the meeting, the Minister highlighted various issues concerning the relations between Italy and the region, and also on matters concerning the measures implemented by the Italian government to stimulate its economy.
