The sixth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI-6) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is taking place in Rome from 16-19 February 2026.
Malaysia’s delegation is led by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), and comprises of officials from various federal and state ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as the Embassy of Malaysia in Rome.
The SBI meets to review and strengthen implementation of the CBD, including enabling conditions and the effective operation of the Convention. SBI-6 outcomes will feed into the 2026 UN Biodiversity Conference in Yerevan, including the CBD Conference of Parties 17 (COP17) and the meetings of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol (COP-MOP12) and the Nagoya Protocol (COP-MOP6). The focus at SBI-6 is to advance convergence on key issues, notably global biodiversity financing, the Gender Plan of Action, closing technology/technical/institutional capacity gaps, international cooperation, and fair and equitable benefit-sharing from the use of genetic resources. At COP17, Parties are expected to undertake the first global review of collective progress in implementing the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
