1st Malaysia-Japan Strategic Dialogue

13 December 2024 – The 1st Malaysia-Japan Strategic Dialogue was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The meeting was co-hosted by H.E. Dato’ Ahmad Rozian Abd. Ghani, Deputy Secretary General (Bilateral Affairs) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, and Mr. Mohd Yani Daud, Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) of the Ministry of Defence of Malaysia, with their counterparts, Mr. Ryo Nakamura, Director-General, Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Takanori Arima, Director-General for International Affairs, Bureau of Defence Policy of the Ministry of Defence of Japan.

 

The dialogue was one of the many initiatives under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between the two countries, signed on 16 December 2023 with the aim to address regional and international challenges more effectively. The meeting emphasized exploring avenues for cooperation, particularly in leveraging Malaysia's upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.

 

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing mutual interests and promoting stability and prosperity across ASEAN and beyond.
